Entering by boat: Saint-Martin (French side)

What to do to enter Saint-Martin (French side) by sea: the procedures, the papers to present and the ports where you can clear in.

Based on official sources, checked on 28 October 2026.

Before you arrive

The steps

  1. Fill in the customs online declaration and the Port de Marigot registration (up to 24 h ahead).
  2. Write down the clearance number (the port sends no confirmation e-mail).
  3. Report to the port office (Galisbay or Marina Fort-Louis) with passports, papers, insurance and previous clearance.
  4. Pay mooring fees on departure and repeat both steps to clear out.

Papers to have on board

  • Passports for the whole crew
  • Visas, if your nationality requires them
  • Crew list
  • Boat papers (registration certificate)
  • Outward clearance from the previous country
  • Insurance certificate

Good to know

  • Two steps: customs (national online declaration) AND the Marigot port authority, which has enforced clearance with a patrol boat since 2024.
  • The skipper must visit the port office on arrival and departure (stamp and ID check); combined fee €10.50 (2024).
  • Clear out even when going to St Barth: without an outbound clearance the next entry may be refused.
  • Official list of clearance points updated 30 January 2026: Anse Marcel, Marina Fort-Louis and the Galisbay ferry/port office.
  • Boardings and thefts reported in late 2024 at island anchorages.
