Entering by boat: Peru

What to do to enter Peru by sea: the procedures, the papers to present and the ports where you can clear in.

Check with the authorities before you leave (last checked on 28 October 2026).

Before you arrive

  • Notify the authorities 168 hours before arrival.

The steps

  1. Choose an agent and send papers 7 days ahead.
  2. Contact the maritime authority (TRAMAR) on VHF 16 when approaching.
  3. Capitanía, Migraciones, customs and health through the agent.

Papers to have on board

  • Passports for the whole crew
  • Crew list
  • Boat papers (registration certificate)
  • Outward clearance from the previous country
  • Going through an agent

Good to know

  • Agent mandatory; send all documents one week before arrival.
  • Very expensive clearance, treated like a commercial ship: choose the port carefully (Callao easiest with Yacht Club Peruano).
  • After entering the 200-mile zone, go directly to a port of entry.
