Entering by boat: Niue
What to do to enter Niue by sea: the procedures, the papers to present and the ports where you can clear in.
Check with the authorities before you leave (last checked on 28 October 2026).
Before you arrive
- Notify the authorities 48 hours before arrival.
- Online procedure: Réservation de bouée en ligne (Niue Yacht Club / Niue Tourism) + Immigration Vessel Declaration envoyée avant l'arrivée — niueisland.com/niue-yacht-club
The steps
- Book a mooring online at least 48 h before arrival and complete the declarations.
- Email the immigration declaration with passport photo pages before arrival.
- Pick up the allocated mooring and call Niue Radio on VHF 16; stay aboard.
- Customs, immigration and biosecurity during office hours; pay NZD 50 clearance.
- Departure: pay moorings and departure tax (NZD 150/person), present departure documents.
Papers to have on board
- Passports for the whole crew
- Crew list
- Boat papers (registration certificate)
- Outward clearance from the previous country
- Maritime declaration of health
- Biosecurity declaration
Good to know
- Only one port of entry: Alofi. No anchoring, numbered moorings only, to be booked.
- Do not go ashore until Niue Radio (VHF 16) says so.
- Arrive with outbound clearance from your last port, or face a NZD 200 fine.
- A stop of under 24 h for rest or repairs is allowed but still needs Customs; longer stays need full clearance and departure tax.
