Entering by boat: Morocco

What to do to enter Morocco by sea: the procedures, the papers to present and the ports where you can clear in.

Check with the authorities before you leave (last checked on 28 October 2026).

The steps

  1. Book the marina; call the port on VHF on arrival.
  2. Q flag and Moroccan courtesy flag; nobody goes ashore before formalities are done.
  3. Customs (temporary admission, inventory), harbour office, police (passports, crew list with occupations).
  4. Clear out again before each departure.

Papers to have on board

  • Passports for the whole crew
  • Boat papers (registration certificate)
  • Insurance certificate
  • Crew list

Good to know

  • Enter only at an official port; anchoring between ports needs permission.
  • Check in AND out at every port (police, customs, harbour office), allow up to 3 h; the marina often acts as go-between.
  • Declare drones, firearms and ammunition: drones are held by police or customs during the stay.
  • Book the berth in advance (WhatsApp); no clearance fees, only marina fees.
  • The skipper must see customs within 24 h; customs issue a (blue) document to show in every port.
