Entering by boat: Anguilla
What to do to enter Anguilla by sea: the procedures, the papers to present and the ports where you can clear in.
Check with the authorities before you leave (last checked on 28 October 2026).
The steps
- Go directly to Road Bay and anchor.
- Walk to the Sandy Ground customs-immigration office (by the dinghy dock) with 4 copies of the crew list.
- Show passports, ship's papers and the previous clearance.
- Ask for a cruising permit if you want to leave Road Bay.
Papers to have on board
- Passports for the whole crew
- Crew list
- Boat papers (registration certificate)
- Outward clearance from the previous country
Good to know
- Road Bay (Sandy Ground) is the only port of entry for yachts; Blowing Point (ferry port) is not one for yachts.
- A cruising permit (expensive, priced in EC dollars) is needed to visit any other bay, even by dinghy; it does not allow overnight stops outside Road Bay.
- SailClear lists Anguilla but is not used locally.
- For stays under 24 h you can clear in and out at the same time.
